About Anxiety

What Anxiety Can Actually Look Like

Anxiety doesn’t always announce itself as panic. For many women, it lives quieter than that: a constant hum of worry that never fully switches off, a chest that won’t loosen, a mind that races at 2 a.m., a body that stays braced for something that hasn’t happened yet.
It can look like over-preparing, over-apologizing, and over- functioning, holding everything together on the outside while feeling frayed underneath. It can look like irritability, difficulty concentrating, physical restlessness, nausea, or the sense that you are always one step behind a threat you can’t quite name.
You may have lived with it for so long that it feels less like a condition and more like your personality. You may have been told it’s “just stress,” “just hormones,” or “just the season of life you’re in.” It deserves more careful attention than that.

At Wholemind, we look beyond the worry to understand how anxiety registers in your daily physical and emotional life. Caring for anxiety means restoring both your physical ease and mental peace.

How Anxiety Shows Up Differently in Women

Women are diagnosed with anxiety disorders at roughly twice the rate of men, and the way anxiety presents is often shaped by hormonal and reproductive life. Symptoms can intensify premenstrually, during pregnancy, in the postpartum period, and across the menopausal transition.
Anxiety in women is also frequently misread as attributed to caregiving stress, “type A” tendencies, or simply being “a worrier,” which can delay care for years. At Wholemind, your full context is part of the clinical picture from the first conversation,
not an afterthought.

Common Questions About Anxiety Care

Clear, compassionate answers to help you feel informed, supported, and empowered in your care.

FAQ Icon

Do I need a diagnosis before booking?

No. You do not need to have named what you’re experiencing or used the “right” words. The evaluation is where we understand it together.

FAQ Icon

Will I have to take medication?

not necessarily. Medication is one option among several. When it’s appropriate, we discuss benefits, side effects, and reproductive safety openly – and the decision is made with you, never handed to you.

FAQ Icon

Can you treat anxiety during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Yes. Reproductive-informed prescribing is a core part of this practice.
We weigh the safety of treatment and of untreated anxiety together,
and we are transparent about what is and isn’t known.
